Export potential of Russian poultry and pork production industries

During the “Hot Line” on June, 15-th, President Putin said that he was negotiating with the Chineese colleagues the prospectives of the opening of their market for the Russian producers of pork and poultry. Taking into account that Russia borders with 3 of the 4 biggest meat markets – China, Japan and Soth Korea  – the possibilities of exporting swine and poultry there must be seriously considered.

We need to push our way to those markets. Russian business reacted to the news very quickly. Poultry industry is nowadays the most quickly developing and competitive branch of the Russian livestock farming. During the last 10 years production volume increased thrice and continues growing. The industry has undergone modernisation and reconstruction and now complies with all the international standards of quality and biosecurity. It has become a strong player at the international meat market. One of the leading holdings in the industry in Russia is nowadays “Rusagro”. And now it actively increases production of pork and poultry. “Rusagro” has just launched 2 ambitious projects at the Far East – pork production enterprise with the yearly capacty of 112 thousand tons in body weight, and broiler production enterprise with the yearly capacity of 100 thousand tons in body weight. The investments in each project are about 20 billion rubles. As the CEO of “Rusagro” sais: “Meat is the product with big added value, the meat markets of the neighbouring Japan, China and South Korea are highly potential and attractive for Russia, and we need to push our way there”. And “Rusagro” has already started doing it – last year a memorandum with the Japanese corporation “Mitsui” was signed, and now “Rusagro” has about 9 projects of entering Japanese meat market. They also have joint Russin – Japanese projects of automatisation of the Russian production.

The first supplies of the Russian meat to Japanese market could start already in the second half of this year. It was stated by the Russian Deputy Minister of agriculture Evgeny Gromyko (according to agroinfo). So far only poultry, pork will be later.

Nowadays the possible opening of the Chineese meat market for the Russian producers is negotiated. These facts prove the growing influence and stable presence of Russia at the world meat market.
